New Zealand Travel Tip #4: How to Flush the Toilet

I know, you’re thinking that you don’t really need to be told how to do this. But have a look at this picture:

Depending on where in the world you’ve been, you may have never seen a toilet with two buttons before. Why are there two? Note that one shows a full circle and the other shows a half.

Half circle = half flush. Hopefully, the reason you can choose between a full and half flush is self-explanatory.

It’s pretty incredible that with all of our American ingenuity, and the push for envoronmental sustainability in the last decade, that something similar hasn’t caught on in the U.S. Instead, we get low-flow toilets, which barely flush at all. They made a great episode of “King of the Hill” about it. Check it out sometime.
